Why humidity breaks the wrong fabric
High humidity does two things to a sofa: it feeds mould inside the foam and it makes some weaves stretch and sag. A fabric that looks perfect in a showroom in Europe can be a complaint generator in Dubai or Jakarta within one season.
Fabric types ranked for humid climates
- Water-repellent polyester blends - the safest default. Cheap to clean, dries fast, holds colour.
- Synthetic leather (PU / microfibre) - excellent moisture resistance and easy wipe-down for hospitality projects.
- Tight-weave linen blends - acceptable if the foam is wrapped and the room is air-conditioned.
- Heavy velvet - avoid unless the buyer accepts a maintenance routine. Velvet traps moisture and shows every mark.
What we test before shipping
Every order for a humid market goes through a 48-hour humidity chamber check on a foam and fabric sample, a Martindale abrasion test and a colour-fastness rub test. We also treat the foam with an anti-mould additive on request.
Ordering checklist
Tell us the destination port, whether the room is air-conditioned, and your expected cleaning routine. With those three answers we can shortlist two or three fabrics in your price band instead of sending you a catalogue of fifty.
